President-elect Donald Trump's wife, Melania Trump, and their 10-year-old son, Barron, will not be moving to the White House after Donald's inauguration in January, according to multiple reports.
The New York Post reported on Sunday, November 20, that the future first lady, 46, and her son will stay at their family's luxurious Trump Tower penthouse in New York City. According to the newspaper, they plan to stay behind so that Barron can continue attending his private elementary school on Manhattan's Upper West Side.
"Melania is extremely close to Barron, and they have become closer during the campaign," a source close to Trump's transition team told the news outlet. "The campaign has been difficult for Barron, and she is really hoping to keep disruption to a minimum."
A second source told the Post that Melania is "very supportive of her husband and is fully on board of doing everything that's needed as first lady." She will reportedly travel to the White House when necessary.
TMZ reported that the former model and her son, who is the youngest of Donald's five children from three marriages, will stay in NYC until at least June when Barron completes his fourth grade school year.
Donald's communications director, Jason Miller, meanwhile, tells Us Weekly: "The Trump family is energized and excited about their new role serving the country, and specifically the President-elect's task at hand of helping to move our country forward. No official statement has been released by the Trump family regarding transition timing, but like any parents they are concerned about pulling their 10-year-old son out of school in the middle of the year. We would also appreciate the same privacy and security considerations given to previous First Families with regard to minor children be extended to the Trumps as well."
The New York Post also said that Trump Tower, which is located on Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, will have increased security as a result of Melania and Barron's reported decision to stay in the Big Apple. Both Melania and Barron will have Secret Service agents assigned to them. Earlier this week, the mother-son duo were surrounded by Secret Service while on a lunch date at NYC's Serafina Fabulous Pizza.
